The fall soccer season started pretty much the same week school started and it felt like total caos for the first week. Tuesdays Sam had practice and Ethan had games, on Thursdays Ethan had practice and Sam had games and then on Saturday they both had games, one and 9 and one at 2. So for the 6 week stint, it was pretty busy. Blake also had two weeks in there that ha had to do a training class from 6-8 everynight so i was running around here and there by myself and poor blake had to miss some of the boys games. I will admit soccer was more fun to watch than coach pitch, so i may vote for soccer again next year dispite the craziness of schedule.
Ethan's team did really well. Ethan had a few games that he really had an opportunity to shine. He played his posistion and was able to help score a couple of points. He is still learning how to handle the ball but he was always so fast and so quick to be right there. He made some new friends and really had a great time. Fernando and his son-in-law Dejogo (family friends) want to come play some soccer with the boys and teach them some fun things and the boys are very excited about it.
Sam was more entertaining that athletic. I had family after family come up to me and say how funny he is to watch and what a great kid he is. Sam's really the one that pushed for soccer this year since he loves to play it at recess. He lost his desire to play once he was on the field though. You all remember seeing the kids that sat on the
field and just watched the clouds and played with the grass more than actually playing the game. That was sam the first few games. One game in particular he was just out there doing "karate" moves and making me laugh (as well as others). We started to encourage him to at least run around and try and get the ball. So then he did a little better (but not much). One game that just made me laugh out loud was one that he was out on the field doing yoga moves. The one where you lay on your belly and prop yourself up on your arms and look up to the sky (i think it's called sun salutations or something like that for you yoga gurus). When i asked him later what he was doing he said that he was thinking that if he did that then someone could kick the ball and it would roll up his back and go into the air and then they could kick it hard into the goal. So at least he was thinking about the game. I asked him what if someone stepped on you, and his answer was "oh yeah, i forgot about that." Funny kid. At one of the later games we challenged him to kick the ball at least 5 times and that seemed to get him in the game a little bit more. And on his last game the ball bounced off of him and went into the goal and so everyone was telling him that he had made a goal and he was so excited about it. I think if he would have had another game after that he might of actually played the game. But the point of it all is that both boys had fun and really enjoyed the sport. And we have spring season to look forward to.
